This painting is about anger and frustration leading to joy and release. The subject matter is war and famine and the search for meaning among these seemingly perennial realities. However, there is a grain of doubt in all of this as the seriousness of the message is constantly called into question by the irreverent and irrelevant scratches and scribbles over the surface of the painting.
