about_me

Cindy was born and raised in the Toronto satellite city of Mississauga, Ontario by her Colombian mother and Colombian-Belgian father. Music embraced her from the time she was born and blessed her with a family that viewed music as nutritional and life sustaining - music was always playing in the family home. In her formative years music took hold and began to shape her life - it seeped into her soul and it honed her emotions - music became her fashion, she wore it with a violin and later with her voice.

"My house always had music playing whether it was classical (which was my favourite for many years - I prided myself that in elementary school I was different because that was my favourite kind of music) or plenty of Latin music - mariachi, cumbia, vallenatos, salsa and meringue."

Cindy credits her father for helping her to find her talent. Aside from the influence of Latin music and the rhythm of her culture, music also crossed over from the Belgian-European side of her family. Her grandmother played piano and sang opera as did both her father's sisters. On her mother's side - her uncle plays the trumpet and even appeared at New York's Carnegie Hall while one cousin has a mariachi band and another played drums in a heavy metal band. The Gomez muse appears as a real life "mash-up" - diverse, eclectic, popular but always accessible.

"At a very early age I decided to play violin and took lessons for four years until I discovered I could sing. I decided then that singing was what I wanted to do in my life and when I was nine years old I did my first performance in front of two hundred people at the daycare centre my mother worked at. I was immediately hooked!"

Fluent in English, French, Spanish and the ability of also singing in Italian, Latin, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and Hindi, Gomez blends languages with a popular repertoire that she says "is a mélange of pop music underlined with urban beats and rock guitar." She embraces the exotic and the popular - she takes the ingredients: rhythms, beats, melody, her own songs and collaborations and tosses them in a blender of current sounds and arrangements - and does it Cindy Gomez style!

"I write and co-write practically all of my songs. They are about life - love, fun, and sadness - anything and everything either about me or someone I know. I write how I feel in the moment."

The journey of Cindy Gomez has brought her many adventures: along the way at she started modeling and began chalking up numerous television commercials in Canada and the Caribbean; she became Miss Latin America and she was highly acclaimed as "Best Performer" on Mexican television and was named "Best New Artist" for the Latin American Achievement Awards in Toronto; she took acting lessons and has had small parts in movies but continues with her acting lessons with her parallel goal of serious acting in the future. She has been designing clothing lines with fashion on her agenda.

Step out your door and the time is today and Cindy is busy following her muse wherever it takes her as she preps for her breakout project. Cindy is currently working on her album with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard (Alanis Morisette) Cindy has worked with a variety of producers such as Rueben Huizenga (Edwin), Ron Allen (Ko Capches - Atlantic Records NY, George), Rachid Wehbi (Remixes: Mariah Carey, Nelly Furtado, Deborah Cox), Micheal Bradford (Uncle Cracker, Kid Rock, Dave Stewart, etc), Paul Peterson - a pillar in the purple rain days of Prince, Stevie Salas (Rolling Stones, Kalan Porter, Rod Stewart, etc), Lil C (T.I., Grand Hustle), and Eddie Chacon.
